Review and swatches: Arbonne Cosmetics Lipstick in Jam

I have mixed feelings about this lipstick.

Let me explain: the packaging is gorgeous! Sleek black matte with silver trim and a sticker on the bottom to tell (and show!) you which shade is which:

The colour is seriously beautiful. Jam is a deep maroon with pink undertones - no shimmer, just shiny, intense colour :

The texture is lovely. It's creamy and soft and moisturises your lips while you wear it.

It's a pigmented, moisturising lipstick in a lovely package and what else do you want?!

Well, the lipstick transfers very easily and even without eating or drinking, tends to last only 3-4 hours. Not a huge downfall, right?

Site description: "long-wearing, feather-resistant lipstick glides on easily for full coverage, and intensely conditions and hydrates lips."

I dunno about you, but when I think of "long-wearing" I generally think of 5-6 hours, for a lipstick.

That in itself isn't a deal-breaker though, right? I mean, it's one little flaw in an otherwise-

NO. ARBONNE, NO. Just because here in Australia we're paying $36 for a MAC lipstick, it doesn't mean we're happy to pay an extra dollar for a lipstick that doesn't do what you say it will!

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a nice lipstick and I'll still wear it. It's just nowhere near $37-before-shipping "nice" when I can't even wear it for long.

If you disagree, you can find Arbonne's online store here. The U.S. store has them for $25, of course.

  1. I would be complaining about the 'longwearing' description. Although you love it, that's false advertising! Usually a longwearing lipstick doesn't fade anyway if you aren't eating!

    1. I know! The fact that Sportsgirl lipsticks last longer than this is a bit ridiculous.

  2. LOL I didn't realise they were $37. That's ridiculous considering it's the price of a YSL Rouge Volupte in the US and that's already very overpriced for a lipstick. I guess people will pay what they feel it's worth or what they're willing to shell out, though to be honest I haven't read anything about the brand until I saw a few reviews pop up from fellow bloggers in the last few months.

    1. I'm not sure where they started out, but it's one of those consultant-based brands like Avon or Mary Kay, from what I gather. I agree, $37 for a lipstick is a bit too rich for me!
